State of Olive trees
As a result of Lacebug, in April 2024, our trees looked like this:
We have had a dry follow-up through autumn and winter, and have only had some rain later in spring.
Some of our trees, the most severely affected, were pruned harshly. The new growth I was hoping to provoke has finally arrived, once we had some decent rain.
This picture is almost the same angle as the one at the top of the page. The same trees, now pruned, have burst out with new growth and look great.
Not all the trees have recovered. These ones are doing very poorly, with very little new growth. Some of the new growth is withering and the branch appears to be dying. I think some of the trees themselves are dying.
These trees were not pruned. They have thrown out new growth, which is great, but the tree canopy is littered with dead sticks in clumps which will clutter the next harvest. Best strategy, now, is to continue with the pruning and clean them up at the same time.
